One of the fascinating aspects of education and training is the changing nature of how we seek to provide the best experiences for learners. The Zeitgeist of politics, learning theories, and advancing technology, among other things, have all led to fundamental changes in education and training over the last 40 years. However, two critical areas are always present: delivering the best learning experiences and achieving impact for learners. I have found that I should not dismiss what has gone out of fashion in the sole pursuit of the next new initiative. Knowing what has happened using different historical perspectives gives me clues in how we build for the future. It helps shine a light on practice through an objective lens. Education and training have to change as the demands of the world change, of course, but the fundamental values that underpin the learning will always be consistent. I enjoy the challenge of striving to understand the core of what a teacher or leader is trying to achieve and supporting them in this aim. Improving confidence in their narrative by considering how they provide clarity and impact from their efforts.
