Finding the time to reflect on teaching practice seems impossible when there simply is no time. I had the privilege of meeting teachers in the spring, with probably hundreds of years of combined teaching experience. There was a real mix of those who had a vast lived experience of the changing nature of further education and skills over decades, and those who were starting their career. We discussed how they utilise their expertise and knowledge to design a curriculum that supports learning. They discussed the type of knowledge and the methods they would use to effectively help learners understand concepts and techniques. We examined declarative, procedural, and tacit knowledge and how it applies to their respective subjects. It was impressive to listen to the wide variety of methods they employed to convey knowledge and skills. It will be exciting to see the role that generative AI plays in reflecting on, reviewing, and implementing imaginative learning in various settings.
