The Role of the Nominee
Nominee training workshops

Today, I worked with an organisation to train a team to take over as nominees for their next inspection. Many chief inspectors have often cited the Nominee's role in further education and skills as a model for good inspection practice. It was always a feature while working in two inspectorates from 2003 until 2020. Nominees are often leaders who understand their organisation and learners exceptionally well. It is usually an additional role that they take on beyond their day-to-day responsibilities. Why is training necessary? In over 400 inspections, I have witnessed the role done well and, unfortunately, where the role is not. It is not necessarily the experience that wins the day, either. A nominee has to be a great advocate for the organisation and also part of the inspection team. They ensure the smooth running of the inspection, and the most skilful can show the organisation in the best possible light. I enjoy collaborating with senior leaders who are looking to add this role. Although demanding, it can lead to career growth. What was fantastic today was the enthusiasm and intelligent questions. It led to exciting and enlightening discussions. There is more than meets the eye to becoming a nominee. It starts now, not after the phone call from a lead inspector!
